The Wooden Camera photo below demonstrates linking modules together to get a desired articulation and length. One can use 1/4", 3/8", NATO, whatever connection is best for what you want to support. In the Wooden Camera version (I assume in Smallrig's too) both the links and the components that connect at each end are modular. I've read, but can't confirm, that the system was originally developed in relation to underwater operations, but with much larger components. Wooden Camera calls its version the Ultra Arm. This would be impossible using basic 1/4 screw arms.ĭaniel, who started this thread, is using the same modular Smallrig system that's shown in your photo. It holds VA 7" with batteries like a tank. Victor_cuz wrote:My personal favorite is this. Anyway, there's discussion about these issues in the thread. The system is OK for a low profile mount, but I think inferior when used to get the articulating arm flexibility/length that I want with the Minimax. This is what I mean by an Ultra Arm component, which appears to be similar to the SmallRig system that you mentioned. I'd like to use a component that has a substantive function to achieve balance rather than add a component that isn't doing anything apart from distributing weight.Īpart from cost, I've become a big fan of the Titan Arm, which I think is significantly superior to linking together Wooden Camera Ultra Arm components when it comes to mounting a monitor. I'll find out this weekend whether that's true with the Minimax, which I'll be testing with and without a top handle. In one of the posts in the thread I talk about the weight of the Titan Arm, which is on the heavy side as articulating arms go, but note that in some cases that may help with balance. Yes, I recognise the concern and the fact that some top handles provide a fair amount of latitude when it comes to placement. My concern with attaching the easy rig directly without a top handle is a matter of balance. Thanks for the response and the tip to check out the thread.
